Hello Terry;

   Sorry for the delay,  I beleave thet the
name "Quarter" Grand was adopted to 
emphasize The small size of this grand.A
In those days most Grands were larger.
  The model "M" Steinway a 5' 7" was dubbed
a "Miniature" when it came out in 1911. 
  The "M" was advertised in 1913 for $1.375.00.
