>Hi gang. I am rebuilding an upright let-off rail: new let-off screws, >buttons, and felt punchings. Is there any secret to installing the button on >the adjustment screw such that its cylindrical axis is parallel with the >screw shaft so that there is no wobble when turning the adjustment screw? No >wobble is critical for any fine regulation. The holes in the buttons >(Pianotek) I am using are pre drilled. I should think that if the holes are >put in square, you are guaranteed to end up with no wobble. I have some >wobble. Am I forcing the installation to go crooked? Or are some of the >pre-drilled holes not square to the felt surface? Do I need to make my own >dowels and drill them myself??? Thanks. > >Terry Farrell Insert your new screw in the rail, all the way through and just barely protruding from the bottom. Place the button on the end of the screw, hold it against the rail with your thumb as you turn the screw in. Holding it against the rail keeps it square as the screw goes in. A paper shuffler's rubber finger will provide better friction and some protection to a bare thumb if the screw goes in hard. Quick, easy, no wobble. Ron N
