Wim I have also ran into this type action but the effected 
flnges/pins/bushings always show some type of contamination, i.e., stains 
from being "treated" or a darkish waxy appearance. I also have ran into 
capstans that were verdigried but the capstan felt always show signs of some 
waxy substance having been 'rubbed in/on them. In addition, on S&S at least 
this problem kinda ebbs and waxes during different periods...perhaps as 
philosphy of production/marketing mgrs changed????
 Interesting problem huh?
