Hi Joe,
That would be a durometer, which should work just fine on felt. I'm not
sure it would tell you much of anything useful since density and elasticity
can be changed so much with additives, press heat, and such. I suspect that
felt made from different wool grades and/or by different processes could
have identical durometer readings and act entirely differently as finished
hammers. Sure would be nice to have some sort of marginally meaningful
grading system though, wouldn't it?
