"If all keys sound the same, is there any reason to use more than one of
them?"

Absolutely!! You are under the impression that the purpose of a modulation
is only to hear a color change. Wrong! The beauty of a modulation is the
*trip* not the *destination*. A change in tonal center (modulation) is
especially beautiful to me if the color has *not* changed by having a
harsher 3rd in the new key. Musicians spend years learning harmony lessons
that provide the most interesting *trips* from 1 key to another. It has
nothing to do with unequal temperament at all.

It just occurred to me that perhaps Ed was not speaking of modulation here.
Perhaps I jumped the gun. However, my thoughts on modulation and key color
remain as stated.

Trying to rationalize the use of Ht's by assumptions of what composers
thought and what pianists say is like trying to convince me to love the
taste of asparagus when I hate it. (After all, Emeril loves Asparagus) A
concert pianist is no better authority to judge the sound of a temperament
than I am, or any other schooled musician with the background in music to
make educated judgments. He can only judge for himself. ....My opinion....

Don't bother with the flame suit. I'm out of here!
