tuneoff?

Hi all,

I think the last round of tuneoffs pretty much ended in a wash when it comes
to aural vs. SAT tuning of well scaled pianos. I'd like to see (more for
education/information) "out of the box" tunings for each of the tuners
available on school-type uprights, or short grands.

Experienced tuners know certain scale types and tweak tunings based on scale
break and other factors. As long as this tweaking takes place before tuning
(after sampling) I wouldn't see a problem with this. (though it also might
be informative to hear just the basic calculated tunings from each of the
tuning systems.)

With good pianos, there is enough 'slush' in the octaves widths that work,
allowing a tuner to stretch more towards perfect 5ths, or be more
conservative with the stretch. Many different tunings on these pianos sound
nice, and check out ok. It's the other pianos, the ones that the octave
widths that match are so tough to get 'just right' that I'd like to see a
comparison of the different tuners.

I'm more interested in the bread and butter of the business for a tuneoff,
not just the high-end. How do the different machines handle less-than-nice
scales?

Suggestions for specific brands/models for comparison would be appreciated!
