Corks are fine, but not without glue. Cork does deteriorate and take
compression set to the point that they will come out of the catcher. Glue
the strap, not the cork, and let the cork clamp it in. Just a tiny dab will
do it. 

A dab of Titebond on the back side of the catcher and bottom of the catcher
shank will securely attach a strap in a spinet or anything else that
doesn't have the catcher porthole. 

Why would the tab ever need to be glued to the wire? Haven't we dabbed enough?
