I have some of these from an over strung, over damper Bluthner upright. In brass, they are backward of the wooden flanges in H&D uprights and some old squares, slotted away from the hammer butts. Every glued joint in this very solidly built little upright failed with exception of the posts to the solid beech wrest plank, and the rosewood veneer which has resisted all attempts at removal. The rear bottom board appeared to be American maple. Scale was different, three bridges but with plain wire on the bass bridge; two dumb bars made the board a sort of droopy pear shape (out in one piece with a little finger pressure). Were the wrest plank a little simpler, with its monstrously heavy plate I think it would have been a very good candidate for remanufacture. I still have the plate, anyhow. Clark
