Bob, just be glad you're not doing this in California. I remember a =
press conference by one of the executives from Disneyland after they did =
their latest expansion; he had a small stack of pages and said " These =
are the permits we needed for the original building of the park" and =
then he pulled out a truly giant stack and said; "And these are the =
permits we needed just for the extension on our PARKING LOT."
Morale of the story; The bigger the Government, the bigger the =
headaches.

Subject: Building a shop - You have no idea!
We intend to have a rest room in the shop. Unfortunately this =
presents=20
a huge problem with permitting because the county will then classify =
the=20
building as a dwelling structure. The codes are a nightmare. My=20
contractor brother in law suggested an alternative plan that will =
work.=20
The trick is to install the drains AFTER inspections but BEFORE=20
concrete it poured. Simply leave the plumbing a couple inches below =
the=20
surface lightly covered with sand. When the inspectors are gone for=20
good we can easily break the pipes out of the concrete and continue as =
planned. I asked my architect about this and he said this was a =
common=20
proceedure for these types of projects and agreed. No one will ever=20
check it or care. The same goes for heating/AC. If we install AC as=20
part of the project we must hire an engineer to do a series of=20
ridiculous thermal calcs. Our architect says forget it. The loop =
hole=20
is to contract a heating/cooling man to do the installation AFTER the=20
building is completed. Once the building is finished the county can =
no=20
longer dictate heating and cooling requirements.
