Harps are the result of an unsuccessful attempt at building
a multi arrow bow. As I understand it, it was impossible to
solve the problem of getting the arrows to go in the right
direction, but the inventor noticed a pleasing series of
"twangs" as the strings were released. This and another
similar such experience that resulted in the bagpipe
eventually led the fellow to follow new career in tactical
acoustics.... a field that never made much of a bang.
