I don't think any of us have to tell you, that from now on, get written 
approval before you do any work, especially with an institution.

A rough estimate would be the cost of the parts, doubled, and about 20 hours 
of work. I don't know what you charge per hour, but it should be at least $60 
-- $70 per hour. Pasts are roughly $1300. So you're looking at about $4000 
total.
