If you are trying to do it on the cheep, fix it like you would fix a damaged fiberglass boat. Fill and fair with West System epoxy and refinish. Jon Page's suggestion of Pianolac may be the way to go if it blends in so well - perhaps you can get away without refinishing the whole top (although, I would imagine refinishing the whole top would be the way to go).
