I hate to be a contrarian, but there is no hammer that doesn't need =
voicing, in my opinion. Though many are pushing Abel's, I would opt for =
a Renner blue if you want it moderately bright and like to work =
downward, or an Isaac if you want to build the tone up a bit. With both =
you will need to do some work. Renner blue's respond well to needling =
without too much effort. You can bring them up or down easily and it =
will give you a resilient tone with a bit of attack if you want it. =
Isaac's may require a bit of hardening to get them brighter even if the =
individual is patient to have them played in. Most of those Baldwins =
have poor action leverage (often 6.5 or so even with a 17 mm =
knuckle--key ratios tend to be up in the .55 - .56 arena) so you will =
need a fairly light hammer if you don't want to have weight problems =
and/or if you don't want to mess with the leverage. You can use an 18 =
mm shank and knuckle from Brooks, but the Renner shank is a better fit. =
At 6.5 ratio you will need a #1 hammer that does not exceed 8.5 grams, =
depending on your touch weight target.Hammer #40 should be under 7 =
grams. Either supplier can provide you with hammers of that weight. =
Check the leverage before you replace parts on that piano. You can get =
into trouble quickly with too heavy a hammer.

Esteemed colleagues of the list:
I have been asked to replace the hammers on a Baldwin R, 5' 8" =
grand. The owner is highly trained and would like a moderately bright =
tone. Any recommendations as to a brand that may not need a lot of =
voicing? Any preference in suppliers? Thanks,
