I've run across three variations in the backchecks on these actions.  Two 
used a bushed center pin and had an adjusting screw acting against a stiff 
spring (one type used a coil spring, the other a piece of clock spring).  
Both had a chronic problem with splitting the bushed holes out of the hammer 
butt; the third (probably a later version) avoided the splitting problem by 
attaching the backcheck to a sturdy bendable wire.  ...thereby losing the 
convenience of the screw adjustment.
