There was a very nice tool, I saw at a convention, for removing the =
knuckles. It was called a Hart Knuckle Buster. He is the guy that =
designed the spring tool. His phone # is 970-434-5558.
It fitted in a drill press, and with the drill press turned off, it =
pressed them off. The tool had a slot that tapered down, and also was =
sharpened to razor sharpness. It sliced through the glue joint, then =
levered the knuckle off. There was no damage to the knuckle or the =
shank.
It was the best tool I have seen for this job

There is a special pair of pliers one can use to remove knuckles. They =
look like big cutters and they work just fine. The way their blades work =
is that they litterally pull the knuckle out ot it's groove. Fast and =
easy.

Hi! Mary, I recall a tech demonstrating a procedure for removing =
knuckles at a tech session some years ago.
I saw that demonstration too Carl. One of the reasons I am leary of =

He sliced through the buckskin and felt with a razor blade, peeled =
the felt and buckskin off and with a sharp small side cutting pliers cut =
the remaining wood at two or three places and split it out of the slot. =
I haven't actually done this but it looked easy. Hope that works for =
you. Practice on some old knuckles.=20
