Hi Conrad, I think emptying the bottles would hurt the 'tuning'. It is the different amount of liquid in the bottles, that is a large part of the pitch differences. It must be a German thing, I remember being in a bar over there, and there was a dozen bottles behind the bar, that made up an octave when struck. The bartender was pretty good at making them 'speak'. Regards, John M.
