David I agree with Del and Roger about use of graphite in action centers.
Pure graphite is a crystaline substance (AHD.."A soft, steel-gray to black,
hexagonally crystallized allotrope of carbon with a metallic luster and a
greasy feel") and is not "hygroscopic" in and of itself...however the binders
used in manufactured solid graphite forms are "hygroscopic".
There are many uses for graphite inside a piano but 'not' in action centers
period......
'Some' users of graphite seem to think that it is a cure all and slob it on
with no thought as to future consequences...a sure recipe for disaster down
the road.......however a little judgement in its use will add to any techs
selectionof 'lubricants'....My view.
