Get a length of bamboo, as they sell in gardening stores for proping up your plants, cut it in two along its length (now you have two, sell one to a fellow tech :) ) it is very flexible as well as stiff. Also tying a bit of long string to the cloth you're pushing under the string is helpful to pull it out again if you happen jam it into a corner.
