I think it is actually a ploy to preserve the yamaha quality 
reputation by not offically recognizing japanese market pianos being 
sold in the US, due to the well-documented reliability problems the 
pianos develop upon being moved from the humid japanese atmosphere to 
the exceptionally dry (by comparison) US environment.
