Susan, All the Mehlins I have encountered were excellent. My first was an early 1900's 'cabinet grand' which when I acquired was well over 300 cents flat overall with dead bass strings. I yanked the beast up to pitch and the piano just came back to life. It had a nice, powerful tone with very good sustaining qualities. Another one was a 5' 7" Mehlin grand which had a slanted soundboard and both bridges had oval shaped holes throughout which reminded me of violin bridges. The bass bridge was interesting as there was no apron/shelf and if I remember it was around 5 or 6 inches tall. Again, that piano had a sweet yet powerful tone with tremendous sustain.
