That's a perfectly good question, to which the answer is - sometimes. If 
there isn't enough bare wire to work with, unwind a little. As long as you 
still have wrap on the swage, you should be ok. Bending the loop for the 
tie in the flattened wire is a little strange, and the wire is more likely 
to break there when you bend it, but when you get away with it, it's the 
quickest and easiest repair. Sometimes it doesn't work, and you're back to 
either the universal or a custom replacement, but it works often enough to 
be worth a try.
