Mike, may mean that an old wire that have been beaten to death with hard
worn hammers, is unlikely to produce a good sustained tone, what I believe
absolutely.

  I don't quite understand your question, but the sustain problem is mostly
on new grands. I don't think the brittleness of the wire has anything to do
with the problem.
