Phillips Screws

Well Don,
I don't doubt that Robertson screws may be good, but i have only seen one piano
action that used them. As Ron Nossaman said, "Life would sure be simpler if
Roberts drives were standard, and had been for the last hundred years", but it
just IS NOT SO!

99% of the newish pianos that i work on are of Asian origin, and they all use
Phillips screws. If you never have to work on Asian pianos, i am very happy for
you - you are a lucky man and i am jealous. But surely the majority of techs do
need to work on them. I thought that some people may not be aware that there is
a difference between 'American Phillips' and 'Japanese Phillips'. It certainly
never occured to me.

I am not the one who is recommending the inferior product, i just have to live
with it; and unlike Joe Garrett, i am not planning to replace all those screws
in every piano that i work on. Anyway, you'll still need the correct tool to
remove them if you do want to replace them - so i thought it was worth
mentioning.

| Hi Scott,
|
| Try a Robertson screw first--before you recommend an inferior product like
| Phillips.
