Wrong String was "O" vs "M" Discussion

Hello,

It is usual when marking strings or ordering them at Steinway, or for
instance anywhere I believe, to number the string beginning by 1 at
A0, and counting every string, not the note number.

This way you are sure to order the good string and not obliged to ask
left or right, or middle, too much confusing.
I use the same numbering when ordering to the string maker (cardboard
punching are fine to write the numbers on the good tuning pin in the
piano, so you don't loose time to check which string is the most
probable for which tuning pin)

Hope I understood the problem clearly.

Beside, if a wound string is dead, buy a new piano (if the ashtray is
full, change the car).

Regards.

Isaac O
