Would there be enough metal in an 1830s Broadwood to sink it - let alone use
it for a boat anchor?

Terry Farrell

Terry,
The short answer: No! The long answer: Most pianos of that period did have
things like "Hitch Plates" and "Resonators", (which were metal tubes,
usually made out of brass or copper). The only other metal was the strings
and the tuning pins. There was a large group, that didn't like what "metal"
did to the sound! So, the final analysis: The darned thing would have
floated off into the sunset.
