Tuning Pin Bushings/Bunch

Dave,
I'd certainly "disagree". Did you mic the dowel to be certain that it, in
fact, was 1/2"? Most Dowels are not the exact size they profess! When you
cut plugs w/a plug cutter, you will always get a "slightly" undersize of the
designated "size", which would, more than likely, fit the Kimball plate
holes. I would prefer that it be a "force fit"! Standard, (or even
non-standard), typical plate bushings place the grain configuration
incorrectly. In other words, you will be drilling/driving into End Grain,
which has no strength and is prone to split/crush.
I still recommend "Making" the proper plate bushings, which have the proper
grain configuration. If you had examined the originals, you would have found
the grain to be as I have stated. My suggestion, is bite the bullet and MAKE
them.<G>
