You wrote....... Canada is for socialized medicine, not piano..... Really now...check your facts. Canada had many many many piano companies, some lasted over a hundred years. The Canadian piano with the greatest reputation, and the highest rebuilt sale value seems to be Heintzman. One dealer in Ottawa sells "rebuilt" Heintzman uprights for $10,000, with original board, bridges, pinblock, but the rest done(sometimes reshaped hammers....hmmm .....at this price) ...and people pay it. Too high in my humble opinion. Bolduc claims 1920's Heintzman was "One of the best uprights ever built" I have a Karn grand, 6'6", Canadian, that has the most incredible bass snarl with 90 year old string and hammers....., more then my 6'2" Steinway A2. Lots of nice features about it, looking forward to fixing that one. Canada is a small market. None of our 200 or so companies survived past 1982. Some were poor, but others were very very fine instruments that given larger market, better planing...etc. would have world class reputations today.
