Strange instrument

Ned,

It sounds like a Melodeon, a reed organ that preceded the "traditional" reed
organ/parlor organ of the latter 19th century. These instruments were popular
from the 1830s to the 1860s in various configurations.

Of course without seeing it, it is very difficult to truly identify it.

Hope this helps.
