Cleaning up a laquer finish

Hi all.

I have heard about a technique called 'wet sanding' when working with a
laquer finish.

The reason I am asking is because I obviously do not know how this technique
is applied, and I am hoping to be enlightened here to the point of being
able to give it a shot on a piano some time soon.

Is this somewhat of an 'advanced' technique when dealing with finishes?

my "rookness" is showing, I know.
