I gained my sense of cleanliness during my years as a
monk, and the realization that I play MUCH better, and
am FAR more likely to slide into an artistic reverie
on pianos that DON'T have rotting human excrement (of
all types) on and between the keys. I can only imagine
that it is the same for others. Washing hands before
playing is lesson #1. Not shipping a piano in a filthy
pad is a mere act of respect under the normal aegiis
of: "Do unto others...." Most of the customers I know
who can afford a multi-thousand$ purchase are very
neat, clean and organized. The least we can do is ship
their "new baby" in pads that have just been washed
and dried, which is what I do, every time.
