Hi folks.. I just had to ask this..... you see I got to thinking about the idea of two capstans... or something to the effect, and so I took a sawed off capstan screw today and fastened a tuning pin bushing on top... one of the kind that was prebored... 6mm hole in an 11 mm dowel. And I screwed this thing on to an action model you see.... and by golly the darn thing worked great. I got both a greater mechanical advantage, and a bit more letoff distance. I couldnt find any friction difference worth mentioning. With the origional capstan DW was 54 and UW 28, and with the juririgged capstan DW was 51 and UW was 26. Also, a 41 to 38.5 BW I dont really know what to think about the ratio in this as it would change through the key stroke. So tell me this is a crazy idea, and why. Whats wrong with the idea of a concave capstan top instead of the convex design we have ? curious RicB -- Richard Brekne RPT, N.P.T.F.
