Yes, I guess I did overreact.  Yes, I do have a delete key which I use frequently.  Messages whose subject header suggests real honest-to-goodness technical discussion, such as "Fix SCRATCH in polyester" will be saved and read, with some expectation of technical content.  Messages with subject headers like "CA State Convention Advert" will probably be deleted without opening.
