On the "Five Lectures" CD there is an audio recording of multiple bass
strings tuned to the same pitch on which "Yankee Doodle" is played. The
strings all had different longitudinal mode frequencies, which brought the
ditty out.
Would those problematic single bass strings have LMFs that are either
unstable or out of tune with the rest of the string?
