I see -- I saw "coils" and thought you meant a coil spring -- the jack spring.
No, I've never know the coil end of the hammer spring to make a noise. Yes,
I think that lubrication (out of the piano) would be the way to go.

I have known hammer springs to break up there, due to chemical reactions
between the metal and something in the spring rail felt.
