Hey kids----new Steinways use Mapes strings, and they're just no the highest quality bass strings; try a set from GC Strings or one of the other premium makers---they're twice the price---and you'll see what I mean. Strings on new Boesendorfers (I work on them regularly) are hugely better then the strings on new American Steinways. Cheers, prosit, best, tally-ho, pip-pip, and all that......David A.
