Dear List,

The university I am working for just purchased a new
Steinway D,it’s picked up by a piano professor.

The pinblock of this piano is set toward the tail
side, the tuning pins are very close to the plate.when
I tune this piano,I can hear squeaking noise
ocassionally,I believe the sound comes from the
grinding between the plate and pins.

Both piano faculty and I are concern about the
off-centered pinblock, but I am not very sure if this
is a serious problem or not, what the potential problem
could be.

Any opinions will be appreciated!

Baoli Liu
