Thanks, Paul for the reply. I bought a pair of hair cutting shears the other day for $45.00, and they cut the felt very cleanly. I will proceed in stages, and the ironing and lubing will be the last things in the order of events, because the damper felts do extend too far past the strings. Do you think a hammer iron with temp control will iron the felts (at least on the outside), and will that do enough, or do you need to iron them on the inside as well?
