David: Thanks for posting this story. It has a special interest to me, as
the man mentioned later in the article, Walt Eckstein, is the one who
introduced me to tuning. I took his course back in 1977, and it sounds like
he is still giving the same course, with an updated price. It was $250 back
then, and it was a 13 week course then. He reassured us all that after
taking the course we would be able to go out and immediately make back that
fee. Suffice it to say that in my opinion, "learning the basics" meant that
we learned just enough to know the names of the parts of the piano, and a
superficial idea of what a tuning was supposed to sound like. It wasn't
until I joined the PTG that I realized how woefully inadequate this course
was, even though I passed with flying colors and got my certificate to prove
it. It amazes me that he is still out there after all these years.  Its a
wonderful world!
