What union or unions are the workers organized under? How many belong? In the 80's after the sale to CBS I heard one tech extol the anti virtues of unionization. He said, "they said you shouldn't be notching bridges all day, you should do another task to break the monotony". I know he was never a production worker in the factory, but he claimed to have regulated the owner's piano. It is always going to be a "war" between management and unions, so for us technicians to understand it better I wonder what the wages are? I am sure there is a difference between "production" workers and "finishing" workers, ie the regulators, tuners and voicers. I understand the NYC met area is one of the highest cost of living areas on the planet. ----rim ----- Original Message ----- From: <JIMRPT@aol.com> To: <pianotech@ptg.org> Sent: Wednesday, June 04, 2003 2:16 PM Subject: Re: Heavy Steinway actions/David A. > > In a message dated 04/06/03 2:28:15 PM, pianobuilders@olynet.com writes: > > << Whatever else may be said of CBS and subsequent owners and > > management--without them there would no longer be a Steinway & Sons. > > > Del > > >> > > So true Del. > As to Union labor being the main problem at S&S NY, the Hamburg factory is > also 'fully' Unionized so the NY problems can't all be placed on Union > workforce types. > Jim Bryant (FL) > _______________________________________________ > pianotech list info: https://www.moypiano.com/resources/#archives
