Gordon,

Don't know about any tricks or favorite procedures. To be as neat and 
uniform as the originals, you'll have to practice. Here's what I do.

After removing the wippen that needs the repair, determine the length 
of the cord to be replaced, remove the wood peg holding the broken 
cord either by pushing it out or drilling it out with a very small 
bit. Hold the new cord piece in place with the bitter ends in the 
hole while inserting a round toothpick. Break off excess toothpick. 
To keep it from pulling out, you can insure that not happening by a 
spot of glue on the toothpick before inserting.



(I can't remember if you have to remove the jack from the wippen for 
better access or not, but if you do, you do.)
