Jack, having lived in Southern California for a major part of my life, =
yes, I have seen (or heard of) pianos that have fallen over in a quake. =
Usually the prevention is nothing more than securing the piano to the =
wall by putting eyelet screws into studs on the wall, and into the =
backposts. I think I'd use cable rather than any kind of chain. I saw =
one grand that was in a mobile home where it had danced up and down =
enough to punch the rear leg through the floor.

  Subject: Earthquake proof

  Hello

I got a call from a church yesterday . They have an upright piano =
that is in the play school
and want to earthquake proof the piano with hooks and chains to the =
back of the piano. Has anyone ever heard of a piano falling? Should this =
be of any concern?

I live in Vancouver B.C. ( We are expecting the big one.)

  Jack
