When I moved here I tried a couple sets of Renners and swore I'd never touch them again. That was 22 years ago. It wasnt until about 5 years ago that I bought a new set for an old C and noticed then that getting a needle into them was not a problem... which suprised me as I was not looking forward to the ordeal of voicing them. Renner lost the Steinway contract over the hardness issue for a while somewhere along the line. So clearly Renner had gone towards making Rock Hard hammers. And they still do offer some hard hammers. Petrof instruments come in often with Renners and those are not at all the same hardness. These that Andre gets, and are possible to secure direct from Renner are clearly made to different specs, even if the felt is the same. That being said I dont exclude the possibility that you might find them too hard. But for the sake of this ongoing discussion about soundboard efficiency vs voicing.... it sure would be nice to find out. Cheers RicB -- Richard Brekne RPT, N.P.T.F.
