Actually... the draconian measure I was thinking about was replacing the hammer rail. This is a 3 year old C6. I know of a 2 year old C7 that exhibits the same kind of play problem and I will be checking that out for this as well. But to the solution then.... the Yamahas have this peice of aluminum on the front of the rail, perhaps thats not doing the job. I wonder if it could be replaced with something a bit more heavy duty ?
