This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ---------------------- multipart/mixed attachment Ron N was kind enough to suggest--with his usual wry wit--(or maybe it was Scotch wit): "Splice a new 7/32" shank to the old one with a long scarf joint, trim to length, press the old shank end out of the hammer, fit and glue hammer to new shank, trim shank to length, make resolution to not break old obsolete parts ever again, remember the fix for the next time you break an old obsolete part." Joe G and others talked of a mini miter jig that looks intriguing, but I didn't have time to make one so: I used the rotary sander on my bench belt/rotary sander with a straight board clamped at an angle to the table--like you can do to trim hammer tails. This gave very quick, very smooth, long cuts that matched up very well. Glue, soda straw, sand. Install head and trim. I've enclosed a picture of the top of my BBQ grill ... Thanks all!
