Gee Gordon, I thought you were reading the list !

I dont believe adding mass in the high treble helps much, it should lower
the frequency reponse of the system, possibly the opposite of what we are
after, but I did not experiment in the treble with mass, only at the brak
and bass section)

  I'd try a bit of hardener on the hammers. (something reversible!) If that
didn't do it, then I'd install something to increase the MASS of the system,
in that area, i.e. bridge/soundboard.
