Cy,
         That is exactly what I was talking about at the beginning of this 
thread.  If you use water soluble glue it will not be a problem.  You only 
need a drop mixed with some glue to do a bunch of ivories.  It dries well 
and will give you a joint with the tail that is just as good as the 
original when sanded and polished.
