After a bit of research, and talking with several techs, I've found that
their time spent hanging new hammers in a vertical piano varies wildly from
tech to tech; and thses are seasoned pros, not beginners. Also the fees vary
from a low of about $450 (cost of hammers AND labor to put them in!) to well
over $1,000. And this is for all work done in the customer's home. The
actual hours spent were between 4-20, depending on the tech. Then when asked
about regulation, the minimum time was from 1 to 5 hours at a top hourly
rate of $90 per hr. That $1,000 figure mentioned above was for new hammers
and the labor to install them, but does not include regulation. The actual
labor cost (from one particular tech) was $700. Amazing!
