What is the ornate walnut veneer used on many 1920's players?

Could be. Not burl. ( Not burly enough ). And not
Circassian walnut. I saw a picture of it in Fine
Woodworking, noted the name and promptly forgot it.
I'll try to post a picture. Pretty stuff !!!
