Some German guy that made hammers.

Actually, he was an interesting character. There is a town in America
called Dolgeville. He did work on developing piano hammers and hammer
making equipment and manufactured hammers. He had some progressive ideas
about running a business, such as profit sharing with the workers. He
wrote at least two books, the most famous of which is called 'Pianos and
Their Makers'. It's still in print. You could find it on Amazon or some
other book site, or I'm sure you could find a used copy in a good used book
store. There is also a book by Eleanor Franz called 'Dolge' that you might
find on a used book site.
