Don't know from Birkenhoff; I don't even see it in Pierce. Might be a stencil (ICYDK -- pianos that were made by one company, marketed by another, usually departments stores, etc., on their private label--think Kenmore brand appliances and you have the idea)

The decision to buy $100 pianos is not generally based on the fallboard name. Is it suitable to your purposes and wirth the money to you, then snag it.

BTW if that fallboard says Steinway & Sons (especially grands) or Mason & Hamlin and the piano is in any condition short of a train wreck. run immediately to their house, give them cash, and take it away before they sense that you are suspiciously enthusiastic about spending $100 on their Granny's crappy old piano.

Hi:
Does anyone have any opinions on Birkenhoff uprights. I’m going to look at one tomorrow that is advertised as “working, but in need of TLC”. One-hundred dollars. I’m looking at it as a “lab” piano to practice refelting, string replacement, etc. while I’m learning. Good idea, bad?
